Service Includes
Foot Assessment: Feet naturally change over time as we age. Changes occur through trauma, structural breakdown which can lead to size and width increase, and potentially a fallen arch. Additionally, we can experience change related to medical diagnosis. Those can be in the form of sensation loss due to nerve damage, known as peripheral neuropathy. Poor blood flow to the feet can also cause significant changes and put your feet at a higher risk for problems. The foot assessment is an important part of the service we offer. Should you have any issues we want you, your provider and health care team to be aware. It’s our honor to be your nurse advocate regarding your feet.
Toenail Trimming: A gentle and careful approach is taken while treating your feet. During the trimming process of the nails part of the foot assessment includes making note of the nail quality, shape, growth pattern and overall condition. We trim the nail back to a comfortable position. While trimming and cutting the nail for comfort, equally important is the reduction of the nail thickness for health and properly fitted shoes. Our mission and goal is to reduce any risk and promote healthy feet and nails through regular maintenance.
Corns/Calluses/Dry Heels: Maintaining or healing skin integrity of the feet is important as we age. Corns and calluses can be painful and affect your mobility. Dry heels and feet at a minimum can be bothersome but, deeply cracked heels can lead to infection due to the compromised skin integrity. Routine foot care is important for the health, well-being and vitality as we age.
Deep Moisturizing and Massage: A quality moisturizer is applied and the foot care service is complete with a therapeutic massage for circulation and tension reduction.
Foot Education: As part of the foot care service, foot care education is provided as needed. We offer a recommendation sheet for basic foot care practices and welcome all your foot care questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should we offer foot care clinics at our facility?
As nurse provided foot care services grow across the country, growth records show our services have brought people into senior centers, independent living & assisted living facilities that otherwise may not have come in. It is a great opportunity to get foot traffic into your facility. Return & retention rate is 80%.
How are you different than a podiatrist?
Podiatrist diagnose and treat conditions of the foot & ankle. Some podiatrist will perform routine foot care services such as nail trimming. This may be billed through insurance or it may be billed to you. That is up to the individual podiatry practice. We are here as a choice for delivering foot care services. We offer a 30 minute, one on one, gentle foot care service to our patients. We will make recommendations for further medical attention if we encounter anything that is beyond our scope of practice.
Do you carry liability insurance?
Yes, Essential Foot Care is a licensed business in The State of Oregon. Each nurse is covered by the company’s liability insurance.
If we have a foot clinic on site at our facility how is that managed?
We work with the activity’s directors, nursing directors and/or facility directors of the facilities to set up the clinics. Once set up, Essential Foot Care staff will manage all aspects of the clinic, including but not limited to scheduling clients, reminder calls, payment collection, etc. We are very self-sufficient. Some locations choose to take a more active role in managing the clinics. We respect the facility’s policies and procedures, and we welcome the opportunity to play more of a supporting role if you request.
What do you need from a facility to hold a clinic onsite?
We require a small space and an electrical outlet. We bring everything to the facility to perform clinics onsite. We would be happy to visit your facility to identify an area that will work for both of us.
I am a director how can I discuss bringing the service to our facility?
The best way is to call us at (541) 821-5347. Essential Foot Care provides mobile service either in a clinic setting or private home setting. We are here to provide a gentle experience so you can achieve or maintain your foot health.
Is it legal to have a foot clinic mobile?
Per the State of Oregon (and all others we have researched so far) an established company where a registered nurse is performing all services can legally execute a mobile foot care clinic. The company and the individual MUST carry the appropriate liability insurance.
Do you accept insurance or Medicare?
No, we do not. Our self-pay policy allows us to keep cost down for everyone. Some insurances pay for routine foot care services, but those cases fall into a specific needs category to qualify. We are generally less expensive than most deductibles and we give you a 30-minute, attentive service. Please contact your insurance provider to compare our cost with a podiatry visit.
Do you sterilize tools?
All supplies used are disposable one time use or sterilized. Tools are chemically sterilized at the end of each day. They are then repackaged for the next day’s clinic. We carry enough tools to provide each client with their own set of tools per each service.
What does the medical community think about Essential Foot Care?
We are a growing provider for your foot care needs. We have patients sent to us from physicians, wound clinics, medical groups, home care agencies all the time.
